SAY YESTO RENEWABLEENERGY
THANK YOU!
Your invaluable support over the past 15 months has pushed for faster and further action by governments and financial institutions.
You have helped influence these important actors to phase-out investment in coal, oil and gas and raise investment in renewable power.
THE GLOBAL CLIMATE MOVEMENT
The world is way behind the level of investments needed to bring a renewable powered economy into reality, but in the last year, various energy focused campaigns have started a call for more and faster investments in renewable energy and transition away from fossil fuels. We are proud to be part of this accelerating movement and will continue calling for immediate action on climate change.
The Seize Your Power campaign contributed to and celebrated to be part of a building movement that presents some achievements towards shifting investments in the energy sector by scaling up investments in renewables and phase out financing from fossil fuels. Our main objective of changing the way financial institutions assess their energy related investments is starting to be fruitful. WWF believes that a changing world towards low carbon societies urgently requires investments that shape this sustainable future. Climate change is the biggest threat humanity faces not only in social and environmental terms, but also in economic terms. When investors realize the risks and opportunities that climate action represents, then they will change the way they are doing business. SYP has contributed to give light to this new reality and some financial institutions are modifying the framework for their investing decisions.
In this period we have witnessed multilateral banks like The World Bank, EIB( European Investment Bank) and EBRD( European Bank of Reconstruction and Development) revise their guidelines for investments in coal, limiting it to rarest circumstances. Countries like Denmark committed themselves to a vision of 100 % renewable energy by 2050 and Finland committed to new financial incentives for solar power. Over 90 cities in the United States decided to purchase 100% renewable power. Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, the largest in the world, has started its first review of its coal, oil and gas investments and doubled its investments in renewable energy stocks.
WE ARE BUILDING A FUTURE POWERED BY NATURE BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
The world’s largest meeting on climate change then happened two days later. Over 125 Heads of State came together in New York, along with major institutions, civil society organizations and businesses. Many leaders responded by increasing investment in renewable power, while others committed to moving away from fossil fuels.
LEADERS HEARD THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE – BUT THEY HAVE MUCH MORE WORK TO DO.
WWF’s global campaign to challenge investors would not have been possible without you. And the timing could not be more important.
We need to transform energy investments in the next couple of years to truly protect the places and species of the world – and, to ensure a future of us all.
A world powered 100% by renewable energy is possible. A world where we stop dangerous climate change is possible. And a world where we work together to make this happen is possible.
WE WILL WIN WHEN GOVERNMENTS CREATE TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE.
BUT WE WILL NOT WIN WITHOUT YOU.
WHAT’S NEXT
This is now more than a single campaign. What started as a series of campaigns from organizations around the world has become a raised bar for investors. Governments, multilateral development banks, pension funds, and institutional investors have now been called on by the United Nations to work together to create this change.
WE NEED YOU ALL TO ENSURE THIS HAPPENS.
WWF is continuing to work around the world to make this happen. We will not stop until we win. Stay connected to WWF’s work on moving investments in the face of climate change.
